Transportation
Thessaloniki's International Airport "Macedonia" is located at the east side of the city and is very close to the conference venue (10 minutes by taxi, taxi fare € 5-7) and also close to the most hotels in the centre of the city (taxi fare € 10-15).
A bus connection to the centre of the city is also available (Bus No. 78, in front of the Arrivals' gate, fare price € 0.50).
A car rental service is also available at the airport.
 
Buses from Athens make the trip to Thessaloniki in about 7 hours, including a 20-minute stop at a roadside restaurant with toilet facilities. Buses are air-conditioned, much less expensive than the trains, and usually arrive on time.

These are the scheduled timetables and they are subject to change. Extra busses could also run on peak days. This is why, before your trip, you should confirm timetables with a phone call to the KTEL stations.
 
You can reach Thessaloniki Railway Station from Athens, Belgrade or Sofia. From Athens Railway Station the trip lasts about 5 hours with Express Intercity trains. There is a train about every 2 hours (first 6:55, last 23:56). From Belgrade, (two departures per day, lasts 14 hours) you can take the night train with sleeping car. From Sofia (lasts 5.5 hours with intercity) there are three departures (last 22:10, with sleeping car). From Central Europe you can switch train at Belgrade without significant delay. The railway station of Thessaloniki is close to the centre of the city. The taxi fare to the suggested hotels at the centre is 8-10 euros and to the Conference venue is € 15-20. There is also bus connection to the centre of the city (Bus No. 3, 10, 14, fare price € 0.50).

Departing from downtown, you pick up Bus No.10 Charilaou, which follows the track through the Railway Station, Egnatia and Nea Elvetia, where you should switch to Bus No.66 Charilaou-Thermi. Then you should get off at the bus station right in front of CERTH. You only need to use one ticket (€ 0.50) for both routes.
 
Taxi
Taxis fairs are generally very acceptable compared to other European countries. Before using a taxi, you should also be aware of the following:
  • Passengers' luggage: € 0.30 for every piece of luggage weighing over 10 kg
  • Late night surcharge: Tariff 2, applying from 24:00 - 05:00 hrs
  • Surcharges from airport, ferry, railway or intercity coach terminals
  • From railway, port and intercity coach terminals: € 0.80

Radio taxi extra charge: € 1.50 (simple call), € 2.50 (appointed time & place).
Upon passenger's request, the driver is obliged to issue an invoice stating the route and metered fare paid.
